With Thor: Love And Thunder, director Taika Waititi continues to hone his signature silly, sappy style. The God of Thunder is reunited with the love of his life, Jane Foster, in the New Zealand filmmaker's follow-up to Thor: Ragnarok. Natalie Portman returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and this time she gets to play a superhero.
Tessa Thompson returns as Valkyrie, as bored as ever. Christian Bale stands out as a villain with the ability to kill immortals.
Thor: Love and Thunder is full of visual gags and... shtick. The cosmic vaudeville is occasionally interrupted by endangered children and a cancer plot that hits you square in the gut. The silly-to-sappy ratio is off. But, thankfully, Waititi is grounded by the gravity of his star. Chris Hemsworth is the mighty Chris Hemsworth.
